During my last class at university, as he was saying goodbye to another generation of students, my history professor did something that all educators worth remembering have done over the years. He gave us meaning. He told us to remember the importance of education and cherish it wherever our lives may take us. To never stop being curious, to never lose that spark in our eyes.

He ended on a simple note: “I may not be able to promise you a happy life, but with all of this, I can sure promise you an interesting one.”

The lesson that stayed with me the most is that curiosity is a blessing and not everyone is lucky enough to use it in their work. I am fortunate, because I get to question, explore and investigate some of my deepest interests, as well as issues that are foreign to me, or intrigue me.

I continue on this journalistic journey as I started: with an open heart and a willingness to listen, learn and ask questions.
